Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Auburn | Sticking to my guns on my number 1, not much to talk about this week though |
| Houston | I still think Houston is the 2nd best team in the country, even with a loss |
| Gonzaga | They look great, and I finally have to admit I was wrong about them preseason |
| Kansas | Now have 2 good wins over UNC and MSU |
| Iowa State | Has played essentially no one, wait and see on ISU |
| UConn | 3 blowouts against far inferior competition, we'll see how they fare against Memphis |
| Duke | I know they lost to Kentucky, but they also held a decent mid major team to only 35 points, I'm not willing to drop them further than this for the time being |
| Tennessee | Another team taking care of business without proving to much, the convincing win over Louisville still gives me confidence they should be this high |
| Purdue | The team had looked a little shakier than expected until they went out and took down Alabama, big win for the boilermakers |
| Creighton | Kalkbrenner has been great and Creighton hasn't lost or even been close like a lot of fellow Big East Teams have |
| Alabama | A close loss to Purdue drops them, but not by much, I think this is a good/great team that needs to do a better job imposing their pace |
| Kentucky | Huge win over Duke, and they jump all the way to 12, they don't get another real test until Clemson in December |
| Arizona | I don't want to drop Arizona too far for a loss to a Wisconsin team I was already a bit higher on, and who I actually picked to win that game, but they were exposed a bit in that game, have to bounce |
| North Carolina | I liked what I saw against Kansas despite an early deficit, and I believe in this team despite the blemish on their record |
| Marquette | They beat a Maryland team that isn't a pushover after playing Central Michigan way too close for comfort, not sure what to think about this team, but they're 4-0 |
| St. John's | A big win over Rich Pitino's New Mexico, could argue to be higher if they keep playing like this |
| Cincinnati | They've taken care of business but have no quality wins to show for it just yet with a very easy early schedule. |
| Baylor | I'm still a believer, they've looked great since their season opening blowout loss to Gonzaga |
| Mississippi State | Not a tough schedule, but a win over Utah legitimizes them, at least a little bit |
| Texas Tech | Wyoming being the best win on a resume isn't great, but they've done what they needed to do and hold onto a top 20 spot right now |
| BYU | No challenging games yet, with just Miss Valley St on the cards for this week... Can't wait for their game against Ole Miss |
| Texas A&M | A loss to UCF and a win over Ohio State could go either way when it comes to top 25 or not, I believed in them preseason so I'm sneaking them in, for now |
| Wisconsin | A big win over Arizona moves them into the list |
| Texas | They probably shouldn't be here, seeing as they lost to Ohio State and have 3 cupcake wins, but I still think this is a good team and want to show them some love despite a day 1 loss |
| Illinois | Illinois is 3-0 against bad competition and just haven't looked like a top 25 team, I'm keeping them in for now but they are a prime candidate to drop out, barring a win over Alabama |
UCLA, Indiana, Florida, Pitt, Michigan State all considered. I trust my preseason rankings and eye test, even if the early results don't always back it up. Likewise, I am trying not to overreact to the first couple games, as teams pick up a second loss or a second big win, I will have to adjust my views more than I am right now
