Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Kansas | (--) Just one game since we last met, dominated and still deserve #1. Huge measuring stick matchup with Duke this week. |
| Gonzaga | (--) Won @ San Diego St and continue to look dominant, especially offensively. |
| Auburn | (--) Have been dominant against the teams they should be with a big week in Hawaii upcoming. |
| Iowa State | (--) Still haven't been challenged but Monday vs Auburn will be a war. |
| Tennessee | (+6) The Vols haven't lost a step and dominated UVA and Baylor this week. Lanier is filling in nicely for Knecht. |
| Alabama | (--) Bama did what you'd expect the #6 team in the country to do in bouncing back and beating Illinois. Once Youngblood is healthy watch out. |
| UConn | (--) We finally get to see them play somebody this week. Stay tuned but they look dominant against bad comp. |
| Duke | (+5) Winning @ Arizona in that fashion was incredibly impressive from a young team. They are legit. |
| Marquette | (+5) Showed who they can be by dominating Purdue and with their defense and Kam Jones leading things they are a real problem. |
| Kentucky | (+2) Hanging on to that win over Duke, which aged well, and have looked good. Not going to be challenged this week. |
| North Carolina | (-2) Only drop due to others winning big games and passing them. Maui will tell us more. |
| Houston | (-2) Also only dropping because others have had impressive performances. Playing some big games in Vegas this week. |
| Indiana | (-5) They have likely been sleep walking a bit but still haven't looked as good as I had them against bad comp. This week will show a lot. |
| Purdue | (-9) Took one on the chin @ Marquette in a game that exposed their flaws. Still have the win over Bama and they likely will sit in the middle of this top-25 all year. |
| Cincinnati | (+2) Continue to just thoroughly dominate, albeit against poor comp but still looking very good. |
| Baylor | (--) 2 losses to top-5 teams isn't going to hurt you, but that St. John's win could have gone the other way...holding pat but the defense has got to come along. |
| Xavier | (+1) Quietly looking really good. Could have a big matchup with Michigan this week to further prove themselves. |
| Texas A&M | (+4) Sliding up as others in front collapse but this week will shed some light. |
| Wisconsin | (+5) Beat UCF and playing Pitt tonight, move them up if they win that, swap them with Pitt if they lose. Looking much better than I anticipated either way. |
| BYU | (NR) Undefeated, dominating but played absolutely nobody. Will get a chance to prove themselves this week. |
| Ohio State | (NR) Hard to rank anyone from this point down but the win over Texas looks good and they're dominating bad teams like good teams should. |
| Arkansas | (+1) I still don't know if the Hogs can score enough to win but they're looking like a top-10 defensive team so that helps for now. |
| Mississippi State | (NR) A couple of Q2 wins over Utah/SMU and I might be believing in State as they can score this year. |
| Pitt | (NR) Pending them playing Wisconsin close at least I like them here as they've looked really good. Beat Wisconsin and put them top-20. |
| Texas | (NR) Wasn't always pretty but beat Cuse and St. Joe's. Tre Johnson is elite but some discretion would go a long way. |
Dropped: Creighton, Arizona, St. John's, Rutgers, Michigan St Next 5: Florida, Arizona, Michigan St, Utah St, Texas Tech
