I am a proponent of rankings starting later in the season, since preseason polls are based on almost nothing. So in a project of irrationality, my rationale is to check various sites (KenPom, Bartovik, etc) and throw darts at a dart board. Going forward, my rankings will be based on facts like Strength of Schedule, common opponents, and head to head matchups.
