Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| UConn | As long as Hurley is their coach, I have no reason to think they can’t pull off a threepeat |
| Kansas | The Jayhawks have an impressive lineup as they try to bounce back from a disappointing year |
| Alabama | This team could become a juggernaut in basketball too. God help us all. |
| Houston | The Big XII is going to be a bloodbath again, especially with the addition of Arizona. |
| Baylor | |
| Iowa State | |
| Gonzaga | Can Gonzaga finally win one before it leaves for the PAC 12 (maybe)? |
| North Carolina | The ACC will be fun to watch again, and Duke and UNC are right up at the top—again. |
| Duke | |
| Arizona | How will the Cats adjust from being top dog in a bad basketball conference to one of many powerhouses in a loaded Big XII? |
| Texas A&M | The SEC is more open than ever, with Tennessee and Kentucky potentially reloading. Who can capitalize? |
| Arkansas | |
| Auburn | |
| Creighton | Can Creighton finally step out of UConn’s shadow and make some noise in the Big East? |
| Purdue | The B1G hasn’t won a natty since MSU in 2000, and to be blunt, I don’t see that changing this year. |
| Tennessee | How will life post-Knecht look? |
| Marquette | |
| Cincinnati | |
| Indiana | |
| Texas | Can the Longhorns step in and run the SEC in both football AND basketball? A&M fans shudder everywhere. |
| Kentucky | What will Mark Pope’s first year in Kentucky look like? Can he finally win in March? |
| Rutgers | Please, God, if the B1G snaps its streak this year, let it be Rutgers because that would be hilarious. |
| Xavier | |
| Florida | |
| Oregon |
Let’s face it: the preseason poll is a crapshoot, and I’ll probably look stupid for several of these picks in a few weeks. But for now, this seems pretty reasonable to me.
